My name was a prayer
And your kneecaps were broken
We lay on our backs
In the blue grass
And dreamt of the fire
That would swallow the earth
But I knew even then
The fire was only meant for me

You were a sacrament
On my heathen tongue
And we danced
With a rope of lightning
Binding us
Look, I still have the scar
Written across my bones
From that night

My bile distilled into wine
The day you forgot me
I toast you with
Sweet lips and sips
To remain polite
Table is all set
With pitchforks and doilies
Waiting for the lost Elijah love
That we all know never comes home
My abacus grows dust
The equation bleeds on the tile
And there’s no bead for zero anyway
