about

Ty Gardner (@bywayofwords on Twitter) is an amazing writer. I asked him if I could feature one of his poems in a song. He sent me about 10 and they were all amazing. Thanks a lot, right? Choosing is difficult.

Anyway, I landed on this one and he told me the backstory about looking up at the sky. Immediately, I heard the song in my head and asked him if he would pretty please record the story. He did, thankfully, and I chopped it up and featured it in the song.

lyrics

I remember as a child
Standing in a courtyard of sorts
Looking up at the sky and watching as the clouds moved
Realizing I had no idea how anything actually worked
And it made me feel so small

How childish and lonely to realize the migration of clouds
A haunting epoch of self-awareness and clarity.

I think I knew it then;
The truth of my mortality.

Forming from nothing,
Sunshine and peace.

Building then billowing,
Rage and rain.

Dissipating, faded, and final.

Cloud Migration Taught Me About Death was originally published in "Bukowski Charm," available on Amazon. Please check out his many works; they are amazing.

about

Iambic Beats Los Angeles, California

We have so many titles. A few of mine are: scientist, poet, writer, singer, mom. I like to think I live at the intersection of music and words and always asking questions. A goddamn lovely place to be.
