Heaviness finds me, binds me still
I shiver a little, less as your chill
Settles over, I slip under sinking
No longer thinking of spring
And love and life and once-was warmth

The thrill of bonding, crystalline
Clear blue eyes, buoyantly stretched
Beyond reprise, repeating a hexagonal dance

Was there ever a chance we could stay
Aloft defying metamorphosis
The insistence of phase change pushed
By daily rages pulling boundaries

Set transitions, entrenched positions
Freezing us out of the other, insoluble
Wife and mother, you shudder to think
How thin veneers deceptively safe
A skating rink, covering dark lurking waters

A wash of warmth smooths slashed scars
A reprieve from the wars, armistice
